Grand Square - Birgits Danse

Grand Square Lancers 3rd set
By Birgit Rasmussen 2004
Square
Level: Intermediate

This dance consists of five sets. It is inspired by, and partly identical to, Queen City Lancers as performed by "A Circle of Friends" from Michigan and Kentucky on July 30, 1989, during their visit to Denmark.
The third set is rewritten by me based on my studies of Lancers' Quadrilles throughout the ages in a study group organized by Henning Urup of the Danish Dance History Archives.

A1

All four Ladies forward and back (8)
All four couples forward, salute, (make a deep compliment) Gents turn their Ladies 3/4 around and lead them in to (8)

A2

Ladies grand chain over, with hands across, Gents turn Ladies with one hand.
Courtesy turn means touching the Ladies too much. (8)
Ladies return with grand chain, Gents turn over left shoulder once around while Ladies approach, Gents turn Ladies with one hand. (8)

Parts A1 and A2 are danced without changes all four times. There are no Parts B.

Music: Paint Creek Folklore Society, Rochester, Michigan: Lancers Oriental

In all figures: Everybody start with right foot. Ladies nip their skirts with free hand(s), Gents keep back side of free hand on hip.
