Grand Square - Birgits Danse

Tommy's Texas Two-Step
By Kjeld Rasmussen 1995
Couple
Level: Fairly easy

Groom takes the girl's left hand in his right hand. Couples in a circle, facing in dancing direction.

Basic composite step forward:
Begin with outside foot, girl's right, groom's left. One chassee forward, one step on inside foot, to be repeated. Always start with the same foot. One composite step takes four bars.

Basic composite step backwards:
Begin with outside foot, girl's right, groom's left. One chassee backwards, one step on inside foot, to be repeated.

Variants:
Groom turns right to face girl; take two hands. Dance forward or backwards. Groom takes girl as for waltz; dance round. Use imagination. Remember that groom steers, and gives proper signs to girl.

Always use the same composite steps. ()

Music: A dance from Texas needs cowboy music.
For instruction not too fast: Michael Martin Murphy: Cowboy Songs I: The Old Chisholm Trail. For Dancing: same: Tying a Knot in the Devil's Tail. For Dancing at Christmas time: Jeff Carson: Santa Got Lost in Texas

Tommy Venglar was a farmer boy from South Texas. He became an oil engineer, married my cousin and is now the patriarch of a family of 17. In 1992 he taught my wife Birgit to dance like they did in his youth.
